Part-time Assistant Teacher Position at Giving Tree Preschool

Giving Tree Preschool is hiring a teacher for a part-time position starting in mid-late January.

Who we are: We offer care from 8am-5pm for 15 children per day between the ages of 2 and 5.

A Montessori and Constructivist inspired Certified Family Child Care Home located in a beautiful old craftsman house in the Boise-Eliot neighborhood of Portland. Giving Tree is made up of two teachers with passions in diverse areas who are dedicated to making our school a cozy, welcoming environment for our community. We believe in the power of children’s exploration and understanding of the world around them and we do our best to cultivate children’s natural curiosity through inquiry based, hands-on learning. We value children teaching us as much as we teach them and are devoted to respecting children as co-learners.

Spending time outdoors is also integral to our program. Children garden and eat meals outside in the sunny, warm weather, and play outdoors every day, rain or shine.

We are looking for: 25 hours per week. A part-time teacher to join us for a portion of the school day. We have some flexibility around timing but ideally 11am-5pm Monday through Friday.

This can be either a short-term (through June) or long-term position. After 90 days, a monthly healthcare and wellness taxable stipend will be added to pay.

Covid Safety

This position requires all staff to be fully vaccinated and to wear a mask the entire duration of their shift except when taking a break away from children or being outdoors while children are socially distanced from teachers.

You’ll fit right in at Giving Tree if: you love playing and learning alongside children, have the desire to develop strong bonds with children, families and coworkers and communicate openly and honestly. We are a small, tight-knit community and want to work with someone who feels empowered to be an active voice and bring your own interests into your teaching practice. Our ideal candidate is a strong, calm, stable presence in the classroom, and is creative and can spontaneously shift gears and problem-solve with our children’s needs. Whether it’s helping a child through big emotions or facilitating a group activity. While this is an assistant position, there is room for growth and being able to take initiative, be adaptable, and manage group dynamics.
