ODHS Child Care

Licensed providers, Licensed Exempt, and Relative Providers are all eligible to become Listed and Approved with ODHS as Child Care Providers. Becoming Listed and Approved as an ODHS provider allows you to receive payments for child care from families participating in the Employment Related Day Care Program (EDRC).

How to Get started with ODHS Child Care

If you are not related to the children will be caring for and you are not currently a Licensed Child Care Provider in the State of Oregon you will have some pre-service trainings to complete before you before you complete and submit your listing form application.

  • Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety training
  • Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect
    The above trainings are free of charge, self-paced, and online and can be accessed here

  • Child and Infant First Aid/CPR Course.

We offer Child and Infant First Aid/CPR courses free of charge to ODHS Approved providers Courses are available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Somali. To find a course visit our training registration page.

Water Testing Requirements

License-exempt child care providers who are not related to all children in care must test their water supply for lead in any plumbing fixture used for drinking, preparing food or formula before submitting their Child Care Provider Listing Form. You will need to submit a copy of the water sample results with your listing form application.

Please note lead testing is not needed if you provide care in the child’s home and you live somewhere else, or you are related to all children in your care.

If you are currently a Licensed Child Care Provider in the State of Oregon (Registered Family, Certified Family, or Certified Center) you will simply need to fill out the ODHS Provider Listing form to start the process.

Relative Providers

ODHS defines relation by blood, marriage or legal adoption. You are considered related to a child by ODHS If you are a:

  • Great-grandparent/Grandparent
  • Aunt/Uncle
  • Sibling not living in the home of the child

If you are related to the children in your care, you will need to complete the following training:

As a Relative Provider, you are eligible to receive a higher rate of pay or the enhanced rate if you complete the following trainings

  • Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect

  • Food Handlers Card

Once you have completed your preservice trainings you are ready to complete your listing form you can access the ODHS listing form from the following links, please note all provider types will complete the same listing form application:

Although it is not required, completing your Food Handlers Certification can help you receive the Enhanced Rate as an ODHS Approved Provider. You can complete this training free of charge on our website here.

Upon becoming approved with ODHS as a child care provider you will be sent a letter with additional training requirements to complete the ODHS orientation part 1 and 2 training sessions within 90 days of approval.
